Hello, I purchased the laptop computer last Nov.21, 2008 at best buy vallejo.
Model: gateway t-6330u S/No.: {personal information removed per community guidelines}
The "Gateway Recovery Management" is not working, cannot create recovery disks, the message is "Empowering Technology is not ready. Please try it later or restart your system."
In the Computer Management under Disk Management, I found a 10gig partition but there is no volume name and file system, under the status is "Healthy (EISA Configuration)". This 10gig partition cannot be seen under the my computer hard disks.
Having this situation, how can i create the recovery disks?

I just purchased a Gateway P-7805u FX laptop last Tuesday evening. I'm trying to burn recovery media, but consistently getting error 205. I've checked the recovery partition. It looks fine. I've burned other items to one of the many DVDs rejected by GRM (including some WIM files from the recovery partition), but no go. Tried running in Safe Mode. Nope. Tried running the .exe programs directly from their folders with administrative privileges.
Short of calling GW, wasting 10 minutes to get to 2nd level tech and getting them to send me a recovery set, have you any suggestions?

There is a way to get it to work again. This involves a utility called PTEDIT32.
Find this utility and run it.
Now in the table of configurations, you should see a "12" in one of the boxes. Change this value to "07" and then save the changes to the table. Reboot your computer and then your computer should show the recovery partition as PQSERVICE in my computer
Open up a command prompt (In Vista its under system tools and you have to right click the Command Prompt and select run as administrator")
In the command prompt , I want you to type in the following command :
D:\mbrwinwr.exe install rtmbr.bin
Once you have performed this command, the recovery partition is now restored and you can reboot your computer and press Alt F10 repeatedly on the Gateway Splash screen to go to the recovery manager.

I commend you for being cautious about the program mentioned. Per the forum guidelines, they say if something does not sound right to you , dont do it period and get it fixed by a professional ![]()
With that said, PTEDIT32 is a hard drive editor that changes the characteristics of a drive for troubleshooting issues. It was part of a company called Powerquest Software which came from the software Partition Magic. Supposedly its owned by Symantec now.

Thx for the courteous response, Jason C - many people might have taken umbrage and gotten defensive in response, although I was not being perjorative at all. So, this ptedit32 fix is something I may try if I don't get the recovery disc(s) from Acer/Gateway pretty soon.... Anyone possibly heard from the manufacturer themselves as to why this recovery partition is t!ts up and what official, vetted solution they'll be providing?
I tried the online tech support chat with Gateway (which I have yet to find to be anything other than a pathetic joke after trying the service from several hardware and software vendors), and the "agent", whether it was a breathing, excreting human or a 'bot, directed me to a MS knowledge base fix which had absolutely nothing to do with the issue.

This work around for the recovery partition was originally taken from a website on the internet
http://macles.blogspot.com about how to recover the acer aspire one partition. There are also a few other sites that mention that workaround. Its not what acer wants you to know but since they own Gateway and emachines now, they have been installing their recovery solution on all their computers now .
This trick works for all new Acer built computers including in the gateway and emachines line.
