Hello,

I just bought a Sony KDL-26L5000 and I have a two questions.

I want to use my HDTV as a monitor for my Gateway 300X (the link displays a pc similar to mine).

I tried reading the manual but it was somewhat confusing so I turn to you guys/girls. At first I thought I needed a DVI-to-HDMI cable but after looking at the back of computer am no longer sure. This is the back of my pc.

My second questions is, the tv does not have a headset jack, is there another way for me to connect my headset?

You need a standard VGA cable for the video. Standard mini headphone connection for the audio.

It's unlikely your TV has a headphone jack. If it did, I have to believe it would be on the back or the side of the TV.

Those are my thoughts exactly, why would a 600$ TV neglect such a simple but necessary feature?

You could always buy a RCA to 3.5mm Headphone jack adapter. They are really cheap and you can use headphones on your tv.

Theres a VGA plug on the back of the TV (you need a VGA cord) and theres an audio input right next to the VGA plug. You hook a 3.5mm cord from the headphone jack (output) of the computer to the audio input on the tv.

There are VGA cords out there that have the 3.5mm audio jack built right into the cable. Saves buying 2 separate cords.

I couldnt find the cable that had the audio jack built right into the cable on BestBuy, so I looked around. I'm not sure if this is it, specially because it says it supports up to 1024 x 768 8-bit pixels when my TV has a 1366 x 768 resolution. Here is the VGA-to-VGA cable alone.  

As for the  "RCA to 3.5mm Headphone jack adapter" is this what you are talking about?

Here's what I'd suggest:

Assuming the TV has a 3.5mm input next to the VGA input (some TVs have RCA inputs, requiring the aforementioned adapter):

Get a 3.5mm male-to-male stereo cable

Purchase some sort of headset/speakers switch box

Plug the switch box into the headset output of the PC

Plug the 3.5mm male-to-male cable between the "speaker" output of the switch box and the 3.5mm input of the TV

Plug the headset into the headset output of the switch box

If you want to use the headset for TV audio, this will be a bit more difficult.  TVs are getting more and more basic as far as audio features as many people who purchase an HDTV don't even use the built-in audio and purchase separate surround sound systems instead.

Thats it. I wouldnt worry about what it says it supports. Probably was made when 1024X768 was considered normal. Cable just carries the signal. Shouldnt care what screen res you are running. I have a monitor running 1280x768 usuing a vga cord from back in 2000.
