I saved the monitor from my older ASUS desktop and would like to be able to use it with my new ASUS laptop; however the older cables were the "screw-in" type and I was wondering if anyone knows if there are some type of adapter cables on the market that I could buy; so that one end would be the old "screw-in" type for the old monitor and the other end would just be the new type that plugs in to the new computers?
Hopefully I described this correctly, if not, please feel free to ask questions.

There are several "screw-in" type connectors for monitors. It's the connection type that really matters, not so much the "screw-in" portion. The screws are just to secure the cable to prevent it from falling out and are optional as long as the laptop has the same connector.
First, you'd want to determine what connections your monitor supports. If it's an older monitor, it's most likely using a VGA connection ( http://imgur.com/a/pbVNg ) or a DVI connection ( http://imgur.com/a/BD9wU ).
You would then need to see what options you have available on your laptop and what ports it supports. Most new computers will have HDMI support and some still offer VGA as well. If you post the model number of your monitor and computer, I can tell you what ports it has and what cables you'd need to use.
However, if it's VGA on the monitor and HDMI on the computer, you would need an HDMI to VGA converter, which is like $8 on Amazon. The HDMI end will plug into your laptop and give you a female VGA port to plug your monitor cable into. ( http://imgur.com/a/jcTQV )

I sure do appreciate your help! As far as I can tell the Model # for the monitor is #VE208 and for the new computer it's #X541S.
The monitor supports the VGA connection. I can see the HDMI port on the computer, but I'm not sure if it also has a VGA port or not? It looks like it does, it just doesn't have the old screw-in posts and it's smaller than the old ones.
Hopefully you'll be able to tell from the model #.
Thanks so much.
