Hello guys,
Is it normal for a "brand new" macBook Pro 17inch to have downloads dated prior to the purchase date?
My girlfriend purchased me a new macBook Pro 17 inch at Best Buy store Fairborne on January 6th 2012, but within the downloads log we found the following:
- Flash player, downloaded on Nov 5th 2011
- Silverlight, downloaded on Aug 31st 2011
- Skype downloaded on Aug 31st 2011
- Couple of softwares downloaded on Dec 2011
What do you think of this guys? Does it look like a used computer?
I will highly appreciate your comments.
Regards
Serge

I'm not aware if BB adds this software for you, macs don't ship with Flash, Silverlight, or Skype.
You can see if the mac has been registered with Apple here, check the serial number here and see what you find out:

Did the box it came in look brand new or did it look like it had been opened and resealed? BBY has a bad habit in my opinion of adding software on their own and selling it as new. They even charge you an additional $99 for this "upgrade".

Thanks buddy
I was also amazed when i found these downloads as they are not part of Apple's products and i am pretty sure they were added afterwards though BB refusing it. The manager of the BB of store in Fairborne Dean Russel wants me to believe that these downloads are/were preloaded from the Apple factory, what i do not believe at all.
Even Apple Denmark (where i live) is astonished about these supposed "preloaded" stuffs...This is very sad as BB abuses its costumers. One pays for a brand new product, but ends up with a used one...

Thanks ncoclub
I totally agree with you. I am pretty sure this computer was a used one that was repacked and sold to my girlfriend.
Even the trackpad shows sign of usage not equivalent to the time spent on the computer.
It is so annoying being cheated/abused.

the box it came in was sealed, meaning that the box was just repacked by BB as the downloads (flash, silverlight and skype) which are not Apple products were installed prior to the purchase date.

That truly sucks. I hope you can find a way to get some recourse on this.

I just don't understand how, legally, Best Buy can sell a computer as "new" if they opened it, added software and then resealed it. GameStop did the same thing last year with a game that they opened, removed some cupon, then resealed it and sold it as new. We should start a campaign like that girl did to get the $5 Bank of America Debit Card fee waived!!! Our 15min of fame awaits!!!!![]()

This is why you ALWAYS open the box in the store and verify your purchase before you walk out.
