You can download a copy of Knoppix or Ubuntu, (ubuntu preferrable) and boot to the live inteface. Plugin an external USB Hard drive and browse for files around that way.
Or..... you can take your data into Geek Squad for backup.

IF your old computer's Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is still viable (undamaged/in-working-order) - it might be possible to remove it from the computer and put it into one of these USB external HDD enclosures which you can then connect to a newer computer to move your data over. Geek Squad can also help with this if you are unsure how to remove your drive and/or install in this enclosure.
