Got a new Toshiba A550 laptop at Best Buy. Everything was fine until Windows Updates started, after installing 10 updates, computer rebooted. Since then it continually reboots with the message "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing updates".
Other then go back to an earlier restore point and never do Windows Updates, what are my options?

Let it finish updating and don't try to be on the PC at the same time it's trying to do its thing.

"Let it finish updating and don't try to be on the PC at the same time it's trying to do its thing."
First off, you cannot be on it at the same time. Secondly did you read the part about 20 hours?
I appreciate the help, but I do not think you have understood the problem.
Thanks!

I understood the question, thanks.

"I understood the question, thanks."
It is funny then you should suggest this
"Let it finish updating and don't try to be on the PC at the same time it's trying to do its thing."
If I had already waited 20 hours for an update, why do you think it will finish?
There is obviously a problem with Windows Update in Windows 7. I have found many threads on many sites about it. I have not yet found a solution, which is why I posted here.
Just for your own education, you cannot "be on the PC" when it is rebooting and updating.
Thanks for your help!

Going back to a restore point is your easiest, quickest bet.

That or, if you're brave enough, start the computer in safe mode and goto Programs/Features. Click Show Updates and then uninstall the most recent ones.

The restore point definitely works, but then how will I ever get the updates?
Is Windows 7 so unstable it can never be updated?
It is pretty scary with the frequency of Windows securty updates to simply not install any of them?
Thanks for your help.

I've been using 7 pretty much since the RC came out and haven't had any issues with it.
You said you've been doing some searching, did they specify which update was causing it?
MS does occasionally release a bad update(see : Dell webcam driver), so if it's a widespread issue(as it seems) it "should" get corrected.
If not, when you're doing MS Update, you can manually select the update to hide it so that it never installs.

Thank you.
I was hoping someone could tell me which update was causing the problem.
I tried installing them one at a time, but each one caused the system to do basically the same thing.
It is good to know that some people have no issues. I wonder if Toshiba may be the cause then?
