Outside of the brand, Blu-Ray is the only significant difference. I'd buy the Asus.

Does anyone know anything about how long Asus generally lasts ? & How the sound quality is ?

Asus has a history of being very solid, but then so does Sony. Looks wise, chances are the Sony laptops will look better and come with an array for multimedia software ( most of which might be useless if you already use certain software but that could be fun), while asus will probably have sfotware to monitor cpu usage, temperature and basic vital stats. You will probably do well with either one. Not sure what the support is with Asus, but their machines are usually well made and Sony tends to have decent support for all its parts and good drives ( which tend to be the weakest parts of most laptops).

How long it will last? Predicting the future is a neat trick. If I could do it, I'd be responding to this post from a mansion, instead of an apartment. ![]()
Sound quality on ALL laptops is poor. If you're serious about sound, you buy speakers.
Still undecided? Flip a coin, bro. You're thinking too hard.

I'm fairly certain he's connecting to external equipment, so he's probably asking about the quality of the onboard sound card when used for "line out" purposes.
That said, onboard sound tends to be crappy in general, so I would strongly reccommend an external USB interface.
As to Sony vs. Asus - Sony has a bad habit of using oddball proprietary parts and technologies specific to Sony. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sony unit has a built-in Memory Stick reader instead of an SD/SDHC reader. (I haven't looked at the detailed specs.) I am, in general, not a fan of Sony and avoid buying Sony products whenever possible.

between the asus and the sony, based off my personal experiences, i'd go with the asus. the quality of the sony hardware has always seemed to be top-notch, but sony's proprietary nature is simply too much to overlook. instances like having special memory cards for special card slots instead of going with the industry standard solution boggle my mind.
and for sound quality, you'll hear pretty good sound through the onboard sound jack. given your profession, though, i'd look into getting something like this:

you should see an increase in quality over the standard sound of the machine.

Based on my experience with my $1800 ASUS. I will ONLY recommend ASUS, granted some of their cases are more for the "gamer" but their performance and quality are second to none(in my opinion). I've had it since last September, for what it's worth, and the only thing wrong with it is where I dinged it with a binder. Other than that, it's the most solid laptop I have ever used.
That's my $.02. Sony is a fine brand. The only thing I gripe about the ones with BluRay is that their resolution isn't even 1080P! The ones that I've seen instore are only 720p!... where as my ASUS runs at 1920x1200 *cheesy grin*

Wow...Sony hasn't gotten a single endorsement so far. Looks like you've got your answer, lackofrespect(what's with that name?)
