A couple days ago I saw a Gateway listed on the website for $299. It had 4GB memory (3GB cache), 2.16Ghz Intel. Now, the only comparable things I see are a Gateway for $279 with only 2GB of memory and a Lenovo for $299 with 3GB. Earlier this week, it was listed as "coming soon". What happened?

A similar customer on the forums had asked this same question and did not sound happy about the situation.
Still for reference, here is the item in discussion:

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, it seems that the management may have realized that this was too good of a deal - the link you provided leads to a "Page Not Found." I do appreciate you giving me the item info!

What kinds of things do you want to do on your laptop? You may get away with the cheaper one depending on what it is.

My needs are very simple - watch dvd's, connect to my TV, surf the net, stream Netflix, use Office suite. I don't game. I typically don't run a lot of processes at the same time. I rarely use the on-board camera. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 I bought a few years back, but the battery died and this appeared to be a better option than replacing the battery.

What do you think about this Lenovo:

That $279 model is plenty, according to its specs, it does have an HDMI port...... Also you will be getting Microsoft Word and Excel for free with this laptop too as Office 2010 Starter is standard on all new computers and laptops now.

Gracias Amigo!!!
Does that starter office have a limited time use? That is, is it a trial, or just limited to excel and word? No PowerPoint, right?
BTW, Thanks so much for your help!

No trial period, its slightly reduced funcitonality from the actual paid product, but casual users won't notice a change, the features apply to more heavy business users, and you will see a little ad window at the bottom right of the program.
No powerpoint.
