Warranty of my Laptop

Hi!

I need help. My uncle gave me a laptop as a gift, but I not American, and I live in Brazil. My uncle bought a Dell laptop at BestBuy because of the universal warranty of Dell, but he was not warned that the Proprietary Ownership of the laptop belongs to BestBuy. I have problems with my laptop, and I can't go to United States right now. I need to have the Proprietary Ownership of my laptop to use the DELL Warranty in my country, but bestbuy should transfer the ownership to me.

I need to speak with someone from Bestbuy for the transfer.

Thank you.

Sorry my bad English

Re: Warranty of my Laptop

You need to get a recipt from your uncle.

Best Buy does not have "proprietary ownership" of your laptop.

Re: Warranty of my Laptop

That is incorrect. When a dell computer is purchased from any retail store, it shows up in dells system as owned by that retail store unless you register it buy going here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/global/shared/support/order/en/retail_landing_page...

Once you do that, it will show up in dells system as owned by you and you can get service. Usually they can give you service without the receipt directly through dell going off of your service tag but sometimes if you are close to the 1 year expiring, it shows up as already expired so you would need the receipt to prove it.
