WIN7 RECOVERY

How do I restore APPS (MS Office 2010, Roxio, etc.) after re-installing WIN7 due to a virus that ruined the Master Boot Record?  I expected a disc image to be in the recovery partition but it had a wmi zipped file which I unzipped with Bitzipper.  That did not help much.

Is there a way to download the APPS that came installed on this Dell XPS system?  It is still under warranty by Dell.  How come I do not have Application disks for re-install?

Re: WIN7 RECOVERY

You will have to contact Dell for the Restore Disc set.  You will have to pay a nominal cost for them.

You were prompted to make the restore disc set when you first used the computer.  If you skipped, or missed, that step, then you find yourself in the predicament that you are in now.

I am curious as to whether your computer actually came with Office 2010.  You probably got a trial or a starter version.

Re: WIN7 RECOVERY

Also it's important to note that simply reinstalling the OS will not resolve a MBR (aka bootkit) infection. You'll need to re-write a good MBR on the machine to get rid of it. Some of them even go so far as to make a hidden partition on the drive and infect the machine via the VBR.

Although I am employed by Geek Squad my opinions do not in any way shape or form represent Best Buy's Official stance on matters. My opinions are solely my own.

Re: WIN7 RECOVERY

Yes. I rebuilt the MBR, installed Win7 and the Drivers from the drivers disk. Now downloading Apps from Dell. Thanks!
