Vidoe Card Question?

Hey guys I recently purchased a Sony Vaio VGN-NS140E from bestbuy. I love the laptop but I'm having a real hard time playing games with the GMA 4500MHD graphics card. The plus side is I have 2 or 3 gigs of RAM I think. I need some suggestions on what type of graphics card I should buy for this type of laptop.

Re: Vidoe Card Question?

It really depends on what you'd want to do with your laptop. If you're gaming, go with any type of nVidia card, though, if you would reply with your purpose, and a price range, i could probably look around and let you know.

Re: Vidoe Card Question?

Hi Jmcauley!

Since my last posting on this topic I have slightly changed my mind. I was categorically saying “no upgrades” to laptop video or processors. This is more a trend on older laptops with integrated video chipsets. With some of the newer laptops it may be possible to upgrade a removable video graphics card.  You need to check with the manufacturer to see what is possible – and consider having them do it for you.

Thus, I still believe it is costly and impractical for most users to upgrade laptop video. Opening the laptop usually voids the manufacturer warranty; not to mention that reassembly is difficult for the average owner. Perhaps try to buy the computer that will best suit your current and future needs.  For example, you have purchased a lower-end computer which may not perform the way you want to use a computer (for gaming?).  If you are still within the return/exchange period then you may have the option of looking for another computer to meet your gaming passions.

Re: Vidoe Card Question?

tough luck buddy! intel integrated graphics can only play some games. i have a laptop with intel integrated graphics. i can run small games, like command and conquer generals(that's the "highest end game" i have been able to run successfully on the laptop) and a star trek game (welll game runs smooth but the graphics suck.)

my recommendation: return the laptop asap if still within 14 day return policy, go buy ur self a laptop that comes with a dedicated ATI/nVidia graphics card.

when u look for a new laptop, make sure u mention that you want to play games with it to.

Re: Vidoe Card Question?

Generally the laptops cannot have their video adapters upgraded except in rare circumstances where the mainboard was designed otherwise.

You can help things out slightly by pointing to the battery icon at the bottom right hand side of your screen  and selecting power options. There you can set your laptop power scheme to high performance to ensure that you are getting the best graphics and gaming experience.
