I have a 2008 model Gateway LX6200 desktop with a 2.2GHz AMD Phenom 9500 quad core CPU which I updated to a GeForce GTX 550 Ti GPU. I'm finding that the performance of the computer is great except with the latest games so I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the CPU as well. The MoBo is a Gateway RS780 Rev 1.0.
Can I upgrade the CPU and would this be worth doing? What would people recommend regarding CPUs?
Thanks

Unfortunately, you already shot yourself in the shoot a little when you purchased the Geforce 550 TI video card. The GTX 460 and the AMD 6850 are around the same price and perform better, so there is little reason to buy that particular card.
The Phenom 9500 is a pretty old and underwhelming CPU, so you could gain some traction here; I imagine you should be looking at AM2+ processors such as the Phenom II line clocked at around 3.0 GHz. There are better options if you can confirm that your motherboard supports AM3 CPUs and a BIOS update may be provided by the manufacturer just for this purpose.
