My daughter has a Dell Netbook, she has the Verizon Wireless device for access to the internet.  It is not detecting the device.  Could all USB ports be bad or does she need a new wireless access device.

She needs the drivers for the device. Whats the model number of the device?

Lack of drivers has nothing to do with the device not being detected. If it used to work and now doesn't, drivers probably have nothing to do with it either.
Plug the adapter into another computer, laptop/desktop, doesn't matter. If it's not detected, it's probably bad. Take it into a Verizon store and they might be able to test it too.
