The Problem with IT Professionals

It has been my experience that dealing with IT Professionals is like dealing with Super Models and Movie Stars. I have worked for many a company that employed such individuals that in their arrogance have kept antiquated operating systems running on company computers far past their shelf life for their own job security.

The latest company I work for as a Field Service Technician(yes there is a degree for that too and Certifications) the IT department refuses to update the company laptops and desktops past windows 98(that's right folks it's 2009) due to what they consider incompatibility issues with interface software for onboard ECM diagnostics(which run under windows XP SP2 at our competitor). Before that the system ran a Unix based catalog and service ticket system on green screen terminals, which I might ad the so called IT department put up a 6 month fight against getting rid of.

So When I read on this board about an "IT Professional" who refuses to let some "kid" worth on his PC at best buy, remember that some of the guys behind the geek squad are trained and certified Professionals trying to make ends meet at home with a part time job.

Any advice given on this forum is strictly measured against your ability to interpret that advice and in no way reflects the opinions, legality, policies or opinions of myself nor that of Best Buy.

When all Plausible explanations have been eliminated the the only explanation that remains no matter how ridiculous is the truth

Just Because You Think your an IT Professional doesn't mean you are one..... and Check your spelling.

Re: The Problem with IT Professionals

I'm not in IT and I wont let those kids behind the counter touch anything of mine. Hows that?:smileyvery-happy:

Where a friend works, their "IT" guy (and I use that term very loosely with him) cant even figure out how to restrict web sites from the user terminals. Not gonna mention that the company's wireless isnt even locked down. Anyone can drove by and get into the system.

I tried not to click reply but had to out of self respect.

I take offense to the "kids behind the counter". Yes, I'm 25. Call me a kid,I suppose. I have been working-on/been fascninated/training on computer technology basically my entire life.

I don't know, call 7 years as a system administrator for 18 military bases lack of experience, you tell me.  I'm hoping you didn't mean to generalize, but it still irked me.

If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.

I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

LOL..I am really showing my age, but I have been working in the IT field longer than the average geek squad agent has been alive.

I hate getting older.
