TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR OVER PRICED ITEMS, BEST BUY!

We always buy our electronics (Usually storage or computer goodies for my husband) at Best Buy. My husband wanted to get a good jump drive for me to store my photos and videos on. Naturally, we went to Best Buy (Bloomington, Il). I thought the price seemed steep for the SanDisk 8GB (SDCZ6-8192-A11) at around $99.00 after tax but I assumed that it must be a great product for the price. Sadly, the same day, we went to a superstore and found the exact same item (Exact same item number) for about half that at the local superstore. We were horrified that Best Buy would price something so high! So we came home and looked on the SanDisk website and found the same item at $44.99!!!! Obviously we cannot return the product because we opened the case! So we paid twice what this product is being sold for at the SanDisk website and a superstore of all places for....the luxury of purchasing at Best Buy? We are completely sick knowing we just threw about $45.00 out the window for no other reason than we trusted Best Buy to provide us with a good product at a good price.

Re: TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR OVER PRICED ITEMS, BEST BUY!

If its a local competitor and a price before rebates, Best Buy will match that price. Jump drives fluctuate like crazy in price, and you probably purchased that model when the manufacturer did not have any instant rebates and/or Best Buy did not have it on sale. I have seen 8gb flash drives at Best Buy in the ~$30 range before. Anyways, if you still within 14-days of your purchase, go back down and Im sure they will take care of you!

Re: TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR OVER PRICED ITEMS, BEST BUY!

Hey aebfraz,

As disarray pointed out, Best Buy® does offer price matches on most products we sell.  One slight correction though: rather than offering a 14-day price match guarantee across the board, Best Buy® allows for price matches to occur at any point during a product’s return/exchange period.  In this particular case, as USB flash drives are a 30-day return/exchange period product, you would have 30 days from the date of purchase to obtain this lower price.  All you would need to do is return to your local store with your receipt and speak with a customer service associate, as we are currently unable to accommodate price matches over the phone or online.

Please keep in mind though that other restrictions may apply, and that the product must be in stock at a brick-and-mortar store location in your area.  Additionally, Best Buy® is unable to honor bundle packages, clearance, open-box and web-only pricing, as well as any special offers or manufacturer’s rebates.  If you’d like more information on this policy, you can always find it by searching for "Store Price Guarantee" on BestBuy.com.

Thanks,

Re: TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR OVER PRICED ITEMS, BEST BUY!

Unfortunately, a best buy is too often not at Best Buy.  As an example, many of Best Buy's GPS units are 2nd or 3rd generation and can be purchased at a substantially lower price elsewhere (Am-a-zon for instance).  Likewise, cables are shamefully priced.  If BB doesn't want to match almost everyone else in the free world on cable prices, it should at least have the conscience to keep its mark-up no higher than 150%.  It's too bad that since the demise of CircCty, BB has apparently chosen not to offer any price match except within its own organization---not a real impressive policy.  I'm a Premier Silver member, I [used to?] spend a lot at BB, but I am becoming increasingly unhappy over BB's pricing given today's economy.

I am a faithful customer that is quickly becoming disillusioned.  No competition is a bad thing.

When it comes to computer related items I buy everything from online retailers. Times are tough and every penney saved helps. Retail stores cannot compete with Online Retailers.

Re: TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR OVER PRICED ITEMS, BEST BUY!

Check local stores, especially ones with Wals.  It may not be the same model (hopefully it is), but 8 GB San Disk Cruzers are available in Brick and Mortar stores for $20.

The fact that yours was advertised as $45 on SanDisk's site implies it might be a higher end model that will be more difficult to pricematch though.

And yes, on some items BB is competitive, but BB's prices on flash memory and RAM are insane, easily at least 3-4 times that of most other venues for the same items.  For example, BB wanted $119 for 1 GB of Kingston DDR SDRAM in SODIMM form factor for laptops.  My girlfriend was able to get two of the exact same item for $50 total elsewhere.

Re: TWO THUMBS DOWN FOR OVER PRICED ITEMS, BEST BUY!

I do agree to a certain level. I still buy items from them because it's more convinient than ordering online (meaning I can get the item the second I pay for it, not a week later). And online stores are almost always cheaper than in stores. I once saw a book set on book store's website that was selling for $40. I went to the store, and the in-store price was $80.
The only thing about Best Buy that I will no longer pay for is the services of the Geek Squad. At $350+ per visit (not to mention $150 just to get advice over the PHONE), the Geek Squad is just too expensive to pay for anymore. I found a local computer guy who costs less than $100 per visit and I've yet to have problems with him. I did, however, have problems with the Geek Squad; it's like I was calling them out every other month, because problems kept arrising. With the local guy, the only problems I had after he fixed my computer was due to my own stupidity of not being careful what websites I go to, and this last time was because I had overused my hard drive and needed a new one.
Sorry, Geek Squad, but your services are the only part of Best Buy I refuse to ever pay for, and your services are the only part of Best Buy that  is not effective. Not where I'm at,anyway.
