Question Regarding Best Buy Warranty

Hello Guys,

i am planning to buy a new laptop with 2-Year Accidental Protection Plan and i am considering to upgrade that laptops hardrive to a SSD.

SO my question is: can i get this done at BestBuy instore at no additional cost? plus, will my laptop be still under warranty if they changed it (2-Year Accidental Protection Plan) ?

thanks..

Re: Question Regarding Best Buy Warranty

You can get it done in store but it will be a $50 charge to install the HDD and maybe even another $130 to reinstall the OS. Do you remember if you got Tech Support? If you did those charges go down to free.

Also as long as you have upgrades done at best buy then you're ADH plan won't be voided.

Re: Question Regarding Best Buy Warranty

The 2 yr BTP ADH plan won't cover upgrades but as the previous poster mentioned Geek Squad Tech Support would cover the labor to put in an SSD and install the OS on it.

Since you haven't purchased the laptop yet I'd ask your sales person when you go in about a pick 2 option which will include 2 yrs of ADH BTP coverage, 2 years of Geek Squad Tech support coverage for up to 3 computers and 2 yrs of Antivirus software for up to 3 computers. Usually they'll package down so that way the pick 2 difference is minimal in price and sometimes even less expensive than the 2 yr ADH BTP would be on it's own. It just depends on which price point computer you were looking at.

Which computer did you have in mind?

Re: Question Regarding Best Buy Warranty

As long as it's a machine which has easy access to the HDD the store should be able to do it under Geek Squad Tech Support if you purchase the SSD. Some Dells are harder to get to the HDD than others. For instance the 14R (N4010) has the HDD screwed to the underside of the motherboard and requires the unit be almost completely disassembled. Most local Precincts would not be willing to do that for you.

I'm not personally sure which Dell you're speaking about but the local store and their precinct should be able to look at it and tell you if they'd be able to do that for you.

ADH BTP will cover drops, spills and mechanical wear and tear on the original equipment.

GSTS will cover the labor to install upgrades, virus removals, software trouble shooting.

The SSD will have its own warranty that the mfg covers it. For instance, my intel SSD has a 3 yr warranty.

Re: Question Regarding Best Buy Warranty

You won't find a 256 GB SSD in store most likely but bestbuy.com does have a few to choose from that the store might be able to order in for you.

I've always heard good things about Corsair and Intel.

240 GB Corsair Force Series 3

Corsair Performance 256 GB

You may also want to look at Hybrid HDDs like the Seagate XT.
