I'm planning on going to my local Best Buy to buy an individual copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, I've read about Best Buy's Windows 7 upgrade program, does it cover individual copies of Windows Vista sold at Best Buy stores? If so, which version, full, upgrade or both? Will buying Windows Vista Ultimate today guarantee me a free upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate when it's released in October? If so, in October, how do I go and pick up my free upgrade?
Thanks.

Hi there and welcome to the Community! The program only covers new computer that are purchased. The program is operated and sponsored by the computer manufactures, not Best Buy.

I found this Best Buy memo on the site Engadget that clearly says:
"The indivdual software purchases of Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate sold at Best Buy also qualify for the Technology Guarantee."
This can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/05/best-buy-memo-e
So, what's in that memo is not true then?

My apologies, I did not recall this in the materials I received. Our Windows 7 upgrade site is unavailable at the moment. When it comes back up I will check this out for you.

Okay, thank you. I am very interested to see if I can actually get a free upgrade to Windows 7 if I buy Windows Vista Ultimate today or tomorrow from my Best Buy store and what version would qualifiy (full, upgrade, or both).

Okay, but will Best Buy offer me a free upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate if I buy Windows Vista Ultimate as seen in that memo that I found?

Best Buy is only promoting the upgrade. Microsoft is the one that is processing and handling the orders. Once you purchase Windows Vista, register and place the order on the site I linked.
