Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

Ok. This was my first attempt at building my budget gaming computer and I purchased a almost complete "Combo Deal" through Newegg and some other things that I needed for it. Now, I put it together now, three times, and the problem I'm having is that the Monitor keeps saying "no signal". Everything is running, fans, lights, etc. Apparently the motherboards BIOS may not be up to date enoughwhich the AMD FX is not recongnized so I purchased an older CPU to update it, still same problem so I can't update the BIOS...Not sure what else to say. Here are the specs:

Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4100WMGUSBX

Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ4GX3M2A1600C9

Power S: CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

HD: Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Also got a Liquid CPU Cooler: CORSAIR H40 120mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

The CPU I got to try and use for BIOS Update is: AMD Sempron 145 Sargas 2.8GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Desktop Processor SDX145HBGMBOX

Hopefully someone can help with this issue, thanks in advance.

Also would Best Buy customer service or Geek Squad in store be able to help with this issue if I was able to bring it in? I'm limited on way to diagnose this process on my own...I've already plugged in the Monitor via VGA to the Graphics Card and to the Motherboard w/ and w/o the Graphics Card still plugged in.

Re: Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

Check the BIOS to see if its set to use the on-board video instead of the video card.

Re: Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

How would I do that? Nothing comes up on screen to check it's settings.

Re: Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

Reseat GPU is first thing I would suggest. I know you probably did, but I have learned never to assume. Also is the GPU the proper GPU in the proper slot. A lot of the times newer boards come with options for SLI/Crossfire meaning they have multiple spots for GPUs. You may have it in a GPU slot, but not the proper one. The manual for the motherboard should show which slot is for a 1 GPU setup vs a 2 GPU setup.

Second is the GPU a dual monitor GPU? If so you may have it in the second monitor slot.

If it is using on board GPU there would be a slot from the MB itself where you could plug in the monitor.

Those would be my first three guesses.

Re: Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

I tried putting it in the other slot, doesn't fit. So I'm pretty sure it's in the right one and it's seated all the way in. I've tried both DVI Slots that are on the GPU as well as use the VGA converter on it and no luck.

The motherboard as a VGA slot of its own which i've also tried using with and without the GPU plugged in and nothing happened other than "No Signal".

Honestly not sure what else to do; I've already submitted my complaint to Newegg.

The monitor worked with it's previous PC. It's just an Acer AL1914.

Re: Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

Hmm...
Do you have another computer to check to see if the monitor is working properly?

Yeah, tested the monitor today on another PC and it went on like normal.

Re: Not sure...New Home Built PC Issue

I was checking the specs and there shouldn't be an issue with it not showing a boot signal. Even with outdated bios the fx4100 should still post boot. It sounds like there is something not hooked up. Do you have the 4 pin connector plugged in at the top left of the cpu and obviously the 20-24pin connector is working fine because everything turns on. Ummmmmmm, I have dealt with many issues like this with friends and it always ended up being something up with the graphics card. It could be simply something wrong with the 6pin connectors going to the graphics card. I had a faulty 6pin connector once that did the same thing and it wouldn't give enough power to fully boot my old gtx260. Are you using the 6pin connectors that came with the graphics card or ones that are on your power supply? A buddy of mine had a short in one of his 6pin cords; I literally just wiggled the cords a few times and bam it worked. I'd also try another graphics card if you have one.

Just trying to help one step at a time. It just feels like a graphics card issue since it won't post anything.
