Re: Networking Issues

Ok I will. The printer is a HP Deskjet 882C btw. Also I know the workgroup names have to be the same for the two computers to communicate with each other and I decided to use WORKGROUP for the workgroup name just to keep things simple, but on the computer that's hooked up to the printer it won't keep the work group name as WORKGROUP, it keeps changing it back to what it was originally. I'll let you know if following those instructions works. Thanks for the help :smileyhappy:

Re: Networking Issues

No problem. Give it a whirl and if it doesn't work, post the error message and we will play with it and some drivers and things to try to get it to work.

Re: Networking Issues

Alright, thanks so much, you've been very helpful so far. I'm a student so I'm constantly having to print things out and having this back working the way it was will help me out a lot :smileyhappy:

Re: Networking Issues

Oh I meant to ask you in the last post if numbers count as symbols.Because in the instructions you gave me it says to name the printer and I know my printer is named printer3, so if I need to get rid of the three maybe thats whats causing me trouble?

Re: Networking Issues

Alright so I'm following the directions you gave me and I went into the control panel and clicked network and sharing center then view network computers and devices, and according to the instructions I should see the xp computer listed under the computers, but all that's hear is my computer (owner-pc) so how do I get the xp computer to show up on the list like it's supposed to?

Re: Networking Issues

Nope numbers aren't symbols so your fine there.
Next do this:
Open Control Panel from the Start Menu or Windows desktop.
On Windows XP choose the connection on which to enable / disable sharing. (printing) View the properties for this connection by right-clicking on the icon and choosing "Properties" from the menu. If the connection is a dial-up connection, click the Networking tab to view its properties.
ensure the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Windows" checkbox is checked to enable sharing and unchecked to disable sharing for that connection. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to check this setting for other connections.

Re: Networking Issues

After you do that check and see if your old computer shows up now.

Re: Networking Issues

In this case, call Geek Squad and have them come out to (re)set it up for you.
