Motherboard/CPU Question

ASUS M5A78L-M LX AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard  has no support for FX processors out of the box without a bios update, which means you need an older am3 CPU to update the bios and then install your FX CPU, so basically my question is this:

Will the Geek Squad..Customer Service..Repair Center..Thievery you have there at Best Buy be able to do this for me? If so, price?

Thanks for any response that's legitimate to the question at hand.

Thievery huh? Catch more flys with honey...

Although I am employed by Geek Squad my opinions do not in any way shape or form represent Best Buy's Official stance on matters. My opinions are solely my own.

Re: Motherboard/CPU Question

Ah ok as long as you didn't mean thievery I'll help ya. :smileywink:

It appears the BIOS chip is an 8 legged chip which is in a socket just above the SATA3G_2 and SATA3G_4 ports on the board. You can buy a replacement BIOS chip with the newest BIOS flashed to it many places online (like eBay) for around $10 or if you call ASUS and explain your issue they might be able to send one to you as well since you're in a bit of a rock and a hard place.

Then all you'd need to do is pop the old BIOS chip out of the socket and put the new flashed BIOS chip in.

Re: Motherboard/CPU Question

lol, I really appreciate the response. Wish I got that earlier. Ordered a older AM3 to boot the system and update the BIOS so I can my new chip back in. Maybe I'll call ASUS anyways and see about that flashed BiOS chip just incase.

Anyways, thanks again. :smileyhappy:
