Major Problems With A Gateway And I Keep Getting The Run-A-Round

On 9/9/9 I went to the local Best Buy Store (Coral Springs #1136) and purchased a Gateway SX-2800-01computer and 20 inch monitor to replace my 6 year old e-machines T5026 computer that a power supply was going on. I was told that this computer had the biggest bang for the buck by the salesman which was confirming my research so I purchased it. I was not able to set the computer up until the following weekend when i was off. Well after finishing the migration from old to new computer.....the e-machines computer power supply died and is no longer bootable. It was then that i found out that the DVD+/-RW did not work at all.....it will not start up in autoplay, it will not read any disk inserted and finally will not write to a blank disk.  I took it back to the store and went to go see the "GEEK Squad". They suggested a swap out of the computer.....however when i explained that the original computer was now dead and that everything was on the new hard drive and i could do another migration because of it. They suggested that i exchange the computer for a new one and they would swap hard drives from the my SX2800-01 to the 2nd SX2800-01 unit and would charge me $29 to do it (which i thought was fair since i am not mechanically inclined enough to that myself)......Now this is where the real problem starts the Coral springs store was now out of this computer and apparantly every store in the district and even the district warehouse was out of this computer.....they did supposedly find a store in jensen beach Fl that had 17 in stock (at least that was what i was told) and that they would be putting a request in to transfer 1 down.......that is the last i have heard on this issue.......everytime i call in or stop by the store i get the same story, we haven't heard anything or you'll have to wait til our delivery comes in to see if they sent it to us.......i have even called customer relations and spoke with a rep who agreed with me that i should have a 100% working computer and not a 50% working computer.....she took my customer service pin number and all the information and told me that she would see what she could do and get back to me within the next 2 hours (that was on 9/18 and i'm still waiting on her callback)...... well needless to say today is 9/23/9 and i guess i may be stuck with the computer since my 2 week window to return it expires today and with my work hours i cannot get to the store to deal with this today......there was an option that they gave me also to replace the optical drive.....i am all for that also however everytime i ask i am told that they need to clear it with the manager and that he is not in to ok it..  I am at a loss because no one can tell me if i am having a computer shipped in from Jensen Beach (or anywhere in the country for that matter.....there has to be 1 somewhere in the USA) or to give the ok to replace the optical drive since it is defective...........I'm tired of getting the runaround for the past 2 weeks on this issue....CAN ANYONE HELP HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While this sounds like mostly a computeri issue, it requires the observance of a community connector here, so I will let them know so they can move this to the proper category to get this squared away for you :smileyhappy:

Re: Major Problems With A Gateway And I Keep Getting The Run-A-Round

This definitely requires the corporate spank. Just FYI, transferring merchandise between stores is a no-no. A manager at one store has absolutely no authority to do anything of the sort involving merchandise from another store nor can they even ask it. They shouldn't have even told you that it was a possibility. If you walk into that other store with the blessing of the company, then you can swap out the HDD or whatever you end up doing to resolve your problem, but you are basically waiting for the second coming of Jesus as things are right now. The people at the store know this and are likely biding their time for someone above them to get involved and "make it go away" because they were dumb enough to shoot themselves in the foot.
