I have several questions before I purchase an MAC 21.5

Can I transfer the files from my PC to the Mac , like all my Outlook emails into the application Mac has for email.

Pictures, Word files and Internet Explorer Favorites. Without having to buy more programs

What Applications will I need to purchase to be able to transfer If I have to buy applications or programs

Outside of corporate email using Exchange, I see no reason for home users to be using comprehensive email clients such as Outlook anymore.  

Are you using a POP3 only email service through your ISP?

I strongly recommend using a free online email service such as Gmail or Hotmail since it basically eliminates the need to worry about local email storage entirely.  Apple's Lion has a very nice built-in lightweight email client that supports IMAP and works very well with Gmail/Hotmail BTW.

*Not that you will probably be using Windows 8 in the future, but there is a huge advantage to owning a Hotmail account if you do because local user accounts are dying in favor of logging on using a Hotmail account for users starting with Windows 8 and there are some compelling advantages to using this method versus creating a local account.

Use of "comprehensive email clients" allows for maximum flexibility.  It also allows local sotrage of emails, automatic control of when emails are deleted from the server, and allows for secure and/or encrypted emalis and attachments.  I for one would never use the web interface for my numerous email addresses, when it is so easy to have all of them available in one place using outlook.

The speed and flexibilty of a real mail client will always trump webmail, especially when you don't have internet access. ;-) Some people do work offline sometimes.

To clarify...

• what applications do you use a lot now on the PC?  Some will have MAC versions... some will not.
• what format are your pictures?  Are they just JPG's?  Are these pictures in Camera RAW format?
• What version of Word are you using?  An old problem I had was PC use CR/LF.... MAC used just CR.  This caused a lot of double spacing issues decades ago.

I use Outlook a lot... love it.  However when friends reply back on iPad and iPhones, it strips all my beautiful formatting.  Will MAC email programs cause formatting problems?
