I currently have a Mac OS X v10.5.8 and need to update to 10.6 at least in order to download latest versions of other software such as Flash Player. Since I can't seem to find this update anywhere, does anyone know how/where I can find this update?

That's the next version (Snow Leopard). You would need to purchase this to update, which is a software DVD.
I was not able to find Snow Leopard on the Best Buy website, so I refer you to Apple. (see the link above). After you update to that, if your system supports it, you may consider updating the latest version, (Lion). That is version 10.7.

Btw Red, after noting the concerns I had about Lion and declaring that I would keep using Snow Leopard as long as possible...I had a change of heart. I decided that life (as I know it) would not be drastically altered by the absence of the program Front Row. I still believe that 'Auto Save' is a feature which the user should be able to toggle on or off, but I expect I'll get used to it. So, my iMac is now running 10.7.2, my iPod touch has iOS5, and all's right with the world (for the moment). Apple made it super easy to get Lion back too, App Store > Purchased > Install, three clicks.

Excellent. I knew you had concerns about Lion but I didn't wish to overload the OP with the positives and negetives as they were only inquiring about version updates. I myself have extreme concerns about Windows 7 - but, like you, I decided life was too short to worry about such things. (of course, having Vista and XP handy on disc doesn't hurt either).
What really is interesting is the Linux angle. Here we have an operating system (specifically. Ubuntu) that looks and acts so much better then MacOS or Windows 7. It's functionality it's unsurpassed. However, you have to run a compability program to run Windows applications, thus slowing it down and making it unweildy (at least by my experiance). Also, you tend to spend way too much time 'working around' issues on the command line.
Point is, there is no perfect operating system - yet. I doubt there will ever be. All we can really do is hope that the next 'improvement' doesn't annoy us too much.
