Lap top computer warranty

The screen on my lap top started to glitch when ever I would move it, then eventually all the time.  Took it to the geek squad and they sent it off to be fixed.  The same day I received my laptop after the screen was fixed it started to lock up and freeze in start up mode.  Took it back to the geek squad and they told me I would have to do a system restore at a charge of course.  Didn't want to pay the $100 for them to run a system restore so I did it my self.  At no surprise it still locks up.  Now my question is, if I pay the geek squad to run the system restore disk and it doesn't work what then?  Will I have to keep paying for some mystery software problem that the $300 warranty doesn't cover?

I really dont think a factory recovery is in place for the symptoms you describe with your computer. Its more likely a defective panel or connection between the display and the motherboard.

Thats what I'm thinking and also trying to make Best Buy understand, but they insist on doing the system recovery.  They told me when fixing one problem another problem may pop up and they weren't responsible for that.

I have to side with hockey on this one. If you have already done a restore and you are still having a problem then it sounds more like a hardware issue.

 

Have you run a chkdsk on your hard drive or maybe some diagnostics on your hard drive. That is just one of the steps in troubleshooting that I would do.

That's where Best Buy is getting the grounds of saying its software because when they do a diagnostic test on the hardware it comes out normal. I personally don't know how to do a chkdsk or a diagnostic test on my hard drive, I wish I did.

Very rarely can this solve a problem, but see if you can find a bootable version of a BIOS update from the manufacturers website and check if you can update it or not.

 

(Well this emergency trick worked on Acer Aspire One netbooks (120gb version) where the panels worked altogether and a back door emergency bios recovery method restored the screen)

Ok I'll check that out, I'll see if I can get the laptop to cooperate and not lock up.

You can also plug in your desktop monitor into the laptop as well

Did you buy the accidental damage plan?  If you did, back up your files on cds, and toss your laptop into the bathtub.  They will replace it for you (eventually) and you will get a computer that actually works.
