LX 6810 and RAID

Hi, purchased this machine 03/09 from bb.  At startup it kept asking me to setup raid so I thought that's what I suppose to do. Boy what a mistake. I found out now that raid is only used for more than 1 hard drive. It formatted my c drive wiped out my recovery system and now machine shuts down when it feels like it. Called gateway they sending me recovery discs( on backorder) had machine almost 3 months used it about 2 weeks. Its in closet. Also does not come with user guide to tell you these things. Wish bb and gateway would tell you these things instead on trying to learn these things on the fly. $1000 bucks for a closet paperweight

Go ahead. Insult me. That doesn't fix your "closet paperweight".

When I said that I don't know what you wanted us to tell you, I was serious. You could've had GS come to your house and give you an hour of training on your computer. You declined this. Did you expect the employee who sold the computer to explain how to set it up? Take responsibility for your own actions and stop trying to blame others. Just admit "Hey, I screwed up." Everyone makes mistakes.

Re: LX 6810 and RAID

I just got the same machine, but downloaded PDF manual for hardware and software and than went to google and checked on setting up RAID configuration and found out with one drive not applicable. I will buy two more drives for the open drive bays than set it up. I can only stress that with computers and any associated hardware you best read all paperwork and if not enough info don't do anything until you know a process. I am a senior who has self taught myself on these marvelous machines going back to a MacII and days of DOS. Most young folks would not have a clue on DOS commands and continual blue screens or in my day green screens. The bottom line READ first.
