I don't mean to sound like an HP commercial, mind you - just most of my hardware is in fact HP, so I've had plenty of experiance
I've never had anything but good experiances from HP's support. When I had a printer which would only print black and white, they lead me through a proccess to reset the printer I had no idea was even possible - apparently, opening and closing the lid four times on that particular model did it. Who would of thought?
After I had an issue reinstalling an HP machine to factory default (112 error), I contacted them again, and they looked up the error code for me - letting me know that the machine's hard drive was tattoed to the motherboard and I needed to reinstall a different method. It succeeded and I was singing the praises for HP support.
It's *very good* they have a representive here, it means HP has decided to spend time and money to open up a new channel to communicate with it's customers. Through I imagine it's frustrating that the superusers end up answering questions directed at them before they have a chance, so they end up in threads 'tapping the shoulders' of their customers, just to let them know that HP *is* in fact here, if needed.
I think, that what she intended to do.
