Check with HP/Compaq and search for the 1630b series notebooks. I would have bought one but I can't afford it. Instead I bought a mini-note with XP Home OS. Now I need to now if I can download my XP Pro program over it without killing my poor mini??

For the backwards compatibility piece, look for all 32 bit architecture components.

That is all that is really important, but bear in mind that you could have 4gb or 4096gb of ram, xp will only support three of them.

In our experience, Dell is better. The HP we have is now having problems of shutting down after heating up. Maybe you can ask manufacturers of old models that they have to be compatible

with XP.

Dell also has pretty good customer service too.
