How can I password protect an external drive?

I have a Seagate external drive that I want to password protect as it travels everywhere with me and in the event something happens to it, I would not want anyone being able to access it. (Or at the very least give them a run for their money trying to break in!)

Encryption software - I suggest TrueCrypt.
