My computer was the 7000 series and all the extended warranty enchancement ones were the 3000 series.
I did chat online with tech support from hp and we went through resetting ram and listening for sounds.
Was told it was my motherboard, which I will now see what it costs to fix at a few places.
Anyone rec. anyone in area of 44144 that does this ?
or what is an expected price...I want to get it done right and will pay for it but don't want someone taking advantage of my lack of knowledge and rob me.
Thanks for any help,
Traci

You can take it to best buy and have them give you an estimate to see how much it will cost to be repaired.
That way you don't have to worry about someone robbing you, although, when it comes to computers, and getting them fixed, it will always seem like someone is robbing you.
Just like Car Mechanics.

I just got back from best buy. The cost to look at is 99.00 now not 79.00 as I was told. Also, HP told me to take it there and Best Buy says they will fix but I have to provide the parts.
He stated it would cost around 300 and for that I could buy a new tower and pay 99.00 to just transfer so many gigs of data.

Hello again, tciaralli:
You may find pricing information here: http://www.geeksquad.com/services/computer/categor
There you can see that Diagnostics is less than a Computer Checkup (which may have been what they are quoting). Let me know in private message if you require further assistance with service on your HP Slimline desktop.

$300 for the motherboard? what the#$#$$$#$ ...you can get a very nice mATX if that fits for less than that price.
For a 3 year old pc with a proprietary motherboard (i guess, what MB do they use? a super micro micro ATX?) not worth fixing, salvage the parts and built your own.
