Getting a New Laptop

I have around 900 dollars that i'm willing to spend on a laptop that i'm going to use for minor video editing and just everyday use aside from that.

I was looking into the HP - Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Core™ i3 Processor - Espresso Black - dv6-2155dx- 4Gb ram and 500gb hard drive.  But now it has been taken off the website.

Are there any other suggestions for a new laptop? preferably with at least 4-6gb of ram and 2+Ghz of processor speed.

Re: Getting a New Laptop

I cannot check the website right now as it is down but I have one that is sold by all main stores (OfficeDepot, Bestbuy, Tigerdirect and more)

Ok I KNOW these are on OfficeDepot but BestBuy offers them for the same price or around there so just wait till the site is back up :smileyhappy:.

i3 2.26 GHz , 17.3", 4gb DDR3 RAM, 320gb HDD, One of the better priced i3's

i5 2.53 GHz , 14", 4gb DDR3 RAM, 500gb HDD, One of the better priced i5's

Both have Win7 64 Bit clearly :smileyhappy:

Re: Getting a New Laptop

When video editing you want to look at three factors, screen size, ram and hard drive speeds.

Best Buy has a nice Toshiba laptop with a Intel Core i3 and a 16" Screen, it has 4GB of DDR3 and a 7200 rpm hard drive. SKU# 9988697 and best part is it falls well within your range of $900 its priced right now at $679.

Re: Getting a New Laptop

I feel I should also mention the two I posted above I would use BOTH for Video Editing, and Graphic Design (Profession), and from a Tech Level the i5 if you could use an 2nd monitor for you Vegas output would be a beast for you :smileyhappy:.

i5 may work better for you..

@davidg  I agree with No121Else, the HP's will work out great. Though I would recommend the i5 over the i3 for video editing purposes. Though I have a Mac, whenever I use iMovie my computer always runs slower, as i'm requiring more processing power. The i5 has turbo boost technology, that speeds up the computers processing power when you are doing things like video editing, to ensure that you have the same smooth experience. The i3 is great and still has 4-way multitasking (hyperthreading), but the i5 will be even better. The i7's are more in the $999 range, but I would even recommend you looking into it as well. It's our top of the line processor, has turbo boost and has 8 way multi-tasking. On this processor doing things like downloading music, streaming videos and video editing at the same time should run just as smoothly as writing a word document in Microsoft. lol That last analogy and is my view and no way the official views of Intel, but I hope now you can see the difference between the different levels of processors.

Re: i5 may work better for you..

You need a lot of ram when rendering things in a compositor, modeler, or even in a sequencer. The hard drive speed is also incredibly important when accessing many different videos or elements. For 900 I would say either asus or asus owned companies such as gateway. Or maybe hp.

Easiest way to take the "Turbo boost" into layman's terms is its Automatic Overclocking, it will give you that extra oomph when you need it.
