Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

[ Edited ]

I gave my laptop for repair to your store in Schaumburg, IL repair order no. is {Removed per Forum Guildelines}.  I was quoted an estimate of approximately $1682I for the repair.  I asked for a written estimate and what needs to be done to the computer so my insurance company can authorize repairs.  All I got was a run around.  The repair order the Geeksquad and I signed at the time the laptop was taken in, a written estimate will be provided per the California consumer affairs.  I want that estimate.

Re: Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

Why not take it to a real computer PC repair shop that does real repairs, gives real estimates, and performs the work in a realistic time frame since your insurance is covering the cost?

Corporate retail sales store chains are no match for smaller specialized service stores when it comes to fixing your computer, so unless you are somehow tied to using Geek Squad and your insurance provider covering the repair cost, please use some common sense and take your business elsewhere.

Did not know that Geeksquad is realgeeks.  I work 8 to 5 and only this type of stores are open late.  It was convenient to stop by a Bestbuy.  Lesson learned.

Re: Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

Humans work in those 'smaller specialized service stores'. They have the same chance of being clueless as any other repair shop.
Think of it like a car shop. I'm sure you have friends that swear that "Jimmy's car shop" down the road is the best and other friends that claim that their dealership is 100 times better.

Personally, I guarantee that I'm better than 99% of the techs you'll find at any independent shop. However, I'm only 1 employee out of thousands that work at Geek Squad.

Have the store submit an escalation to Geek Squad City to try to get a written estimate for insurance purposes.

It's not something most people on the store level get requested very frequently.

Seekrtz, I love those "Grass is Greener at Duch and Such place" examples.

Re: Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

I talked to the geeksquad tech, the department supervisor at Schaumburg store, geeksquad central tech, bestbuy customer relations guy on their tollfree number, his supervisor, somebody by the name of Chris to get the estimate and what needs to be done in writing.  They all told me that Bestbuy has a policy against giving a written estimate.

The service order clearly states that " An estimate as required (Section 9844 of the California Business and Professions Code) for repairs shall be given to the customer by the customer by the service dealer in writing"  However, when I tried to get one, I felt like I was talking to a stone. All these guys seem clueless.  With so many workers are clueless, Bestbuy should not be in business.

Re: Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

You're not in California so laws there wouldn't apply to you.

Just have them file the escalation for it. Even if they don't think it will work just have them submit one.

Trust me. It's not something that's a common request in store. Most people you deal with won't know if/how it can be done.

Geek Squad City should know how to handle it once they get the escalation from the store requesting it.

Re: Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

I've also reached out to an Agent that I know works at Precinct 305 to see if they can help get that done for you.

Escalation responses typically take 3 business days or so from Geek Squad City so we won't have an immediate answer for you but hopefully we should be able to get you what you're looking for.

Re: Geeksquad won't provide a written estimate

Thanks, but I am not very hopeful.  The following is the response I received from Geeksquad.

"You would need to obtain a copy of this at the store in which you took your product to for repair services. I do apologize that I would be unable to provide you with the estimated cost.

Thanks,

Lindsay
