Hello.

I bought a Asus G74SX laptop at a Bestbuy store here in Indianapolis, IN January 27, 2012.  The laptop was a open box item.  It came with restore media that the best buy tech gave to me that was said to be made for this laptop.  However, I cannot get it to work at all.  From my understanding, there should be 6 DVD's, and I only have 3, and not even sure if there is anything on them.  The restore partition on the laptop has been deleted.  Is there anyway of getting a copy of the restore media?  I looked on the website for ASUS and they charge $50 for the media restore.  However, since bestbuy was paid to make the restore media, and it has failed, shouldn't I be entitled to a copy of the restore media at no charge from Best Buy?

I've never seen a computer need 6 DVD's for recovery media.

Yes. I'm not sure on that myself.  However, I still need working media.  The ones that best buy gave me with the laptop do not work.

Most likely, you want the 64-bit "Home Premium" version.  Check underneath your laptop for the Product Key sticker and listed Windows 7 version, download and burn the ISO to a DVD, and enjoy a clean installation of Windows 7 without the hassle or the OEM crapware/trialware included.  

A USB device of 4GB or larger could also be used in place of a DVD.

*Some drivers may not be detected/installed during the installation of Windows and accessing the appropriate PC manufacturer's website to download those drivers from the support section may be necessary.  This process can be quite simple or somewhat difficult depending on your level of computer expertise and/or familiarity with Windows operating system.

Thanks.  I had heard about that.  So, if I download the 64bit home version (which is what the COA key sticker is), and use the key off the sticker (on the bottom of the laptop), that will work for a clean install?

Also, just a update on the restore media I have. 

I put the restore DVD in my iMac, and the iMac reads the DVD, all 3, just fine.  So, what I did was use my disk utility on the iMac and made a  .cdr image onto the iMac, and then burn that .cdr image to a different DVD, and it seems that my laptop works with the copied DVD.  Weird.
