Hello all,
If you purchased a computer on or after June 26, 2009, you likely qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7. The upgrade is available through the manufacturer of your computer. There is more information at BestBuy.com/windows7upgrade. Just click on your manufacturer to go to their upgrade page. Requirements to receive the upgrade may vary by manufacturer, so please read the information thoroughly. As ever, we're here to help, so if you have more questions, we'll do our best to get you the answers you need.
There's a lot of chatter and excitement about Windows 7. I know I'm looking forward to installing my upgrade!

I have a question about getting the upgrade I bought my labtop within the allocated time and believe its the correct product to recieve the upgrade but in you explanation of how we get the upgrade I see I have to pay $39.99. I thought it was a free upgrade???? Is that fee only for people that have the geek squad do it?? If so would then I just walk in and get the upgrade and do it myself?

When going through the ordering process, at what point does it tell you to pay $39.99?

Hello klewis907,
You must have clicked on the Geek Squad banner that says, "Have a Geek Squad Agent install your Windows 7 upgrade!" There is a $39.99 charge for the upgrade service if you elect to have Geek Squad complete the installation. With this offer, you can pick up your Windows 7 disks in store when Geek Squad completes the work. Otherwise, you may get the upgrade disk directly from the manufacturer at no charge for qualifying computer purchases. Unfortunately, the upgrade disks would not be available through the store unless you pay for the installation service. I hope this helps clarify.

I have a question will all the pre install computers on the day windows 7 comes out only being the home edition on all the computers or will some very, I mean is it going to cost me money to upgrade to home professional or whatever and be a whole lot.
Also I have no need or reason to have geek squad update it, I mean personally be happier with my 40 dollars, but just saying.
I know some people want to do this but it doesn't take that long to do that on a new computer vrs one thats already in us.
But yea.

Most of the computers, I believe have Windows 7 Home installed on them. There may be a few that have Professional or Ultimate on it, but for the most part, they are Home. And yes, you would have to pay to upgrade to another version of Windows 7.
In fact, I've found these computers that have something other than Home preinstalled on it:
9568167 - Ultimate
9556401 - Professional
9556269 - Professional
9568354 - Professional
Hope that helps!

opps I meant to say desktops, sorry about that, to be honest I dont consider laptops and netbooks to be actual computers like other people do, that be like me saying that a a truck and car is the same thing, or apple and windows are the same thing when it's more like apples and oranges to me. "laptops and specially netbooks are just lesser versions of a desktop, more or less a hand me down portible machines at best".
I meant like for desktops, and that.
