So I'm heading to college in the fall, as an elementary education major. As of right now I'm searching for the right laptop. I don't know much about laptops, so I was wondering if anyone had any say on whether or not I should get a dell, or a macbook pro? Please help!?

You won't be using any intensive software, so there's no need to spend the money for a MBP.

Do you want Windows or the user interface of MacOS X?
Does your college have any reccomendations? If it's a "Windows shop", probably best to go with a PC (Dell or maybe Asus). If the school uses Macs heavily, then you should probably think about a Mac.

You really only need a mac at a "mac school" if you're using the same programs they are, such as multimedia programs. If you'll just be writing papers and creating presentations, it's not as necessary.

What are you using now? PC or Mac? Stick with what you know.

I would go cheap. Thieves love laptops. Especially Apple laptops.

Don't be like my sister in college and buy a Macbook Pro just because "it's cool and pretty and all the beautiful people have it." She uses like maybe 15% of its potential. Macs are cool but only if you intend on using it to its full potential and you don't break the bank with it. And no, iTunes and pictures are not its full potential.

I second that CrimsonRain. My sister wants a mbp because it looks "pretty". I want one because of the os and functionality/hardware.
