Re: Connection cables

Device Manager (which if I remember correctly is in Control Panel -> System -> Hardware)

One of the entries should be "Video Cards" or something like that.  (Sorry for the lack of exact detail, I'm using a Linux machine at the moment so can't go through the menus myself to confirm.)

To the Geek Squad rep - Sometimes Fn-F8 fails for unknown reasons on some chipset/driver combos.  It sounds like that's what has happened to baglady.

Re: Connection cables

OK, it's an ATI chipset.

Unfortunately at this point I can't really help you as I'm not familiar with how ATI's drivers handle multiple displays, all of my machines have NVidia video.

Hi baglady,

The chipset is not as important if you use the table above to switch to an external monitor. If you were just curious, however, you could select System from the Control Panel and choose Device Manager to locate the name of your Display Adapter.  It should say one of the listed names mentioned above (nVidia/ATI/Intel/etc).

Did you figure out the display source switching?

Re: Connection cables

Thanks Entropy!

Fn-F8 is primarily for Dell laptops and I have rarely had a problem switching unless there was a hardware or cable connection issue.

Baglady:  Please do not hesitate to take to your local store for further assistance. Just be sure to bring the cable(s) with you for testing.  You may also send me a private message for further assistance.  :smileyhappy:
