I forget what wireless chipset the Eee uses, but the initial drivers released for the Atheros chipset in the Acer Aspire One had some SERIOUS performance issues.  These were fixed by a driver update.

 

Check for driver updates for all components in the Eee.

 

Just as an experiment, have you tried a wired connection for the VoIP?

 

At least as far as Hulu - the hardware is more than ready for prime time, the problem is that the "official" Hulu playback software is SEVERELY broken with 2-3 times the system requirements as the same video played back with any other player.

Yes, I 100% agree with the Atheros issue. However whatever was cumlative in the fixes for BIOS 3309 seemed to fix something related to it too.
