I know I can use it but will I get the 6400rpm speed? My laptop say that the processor can go to 800mhz! the 2gb memory card I want to get says PC2-6400rpm DDR2-800mhz. The current memory I have in it now is a 1GB PC2-5300rpm-DDR2-667mhz. My computer memory can be expanded to 4GB (2GB on each slot). I have a Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7438 laptop. running 32 bit Vista Home. 160gb hard drive.Dual Core proccesor. The Toshiba website only shows 2GM 5300 for memory upgrade. Some websites only recomend that but a few others show that the 6400 IS compatabe too. I mean I know it will work (I guess) but if the 6400 speed will only run at 5300 on my laptop then I might as well not get it, so going back to my first statement about my processor, will it work? I have found websites selling both speeds for the same price, so price is not an issue. Thanks.

According to Crucial, you can have a maximum of 4GB (2GB x 2), and a max speed of PC2-6400, which the same as 800MHz. I know all the numbers are confusing.

Yes, Crucial is one of the few websites that say I can use 6400, but Toshiba and BestBuy's SEARCH RESULTS will not pull that up, only 5300. I am trying to see if my laptop will actualy run at the 640oo / 800MHZ due to my processor speed can go to 800MHZ. I am trying to see if the processors max speed has anything to do with the 6400 upgrade capcity. Because if your computer CAN"T handle the higher speed it will, by default only use a lower speed (5300). Yes I do know also my laptop will take 4GB, but it will only RUN at 3GB due to me having 32 BIT VISTA instead of 64 Bit.( Insidentaly, You can change it but I'm not about to fool around with that, plus it would just drain on some other memory somewhere else in the comp) Getting back to my REAL issue...it's the speed I am wondering about. And forget Toshiba Tech Support! They are INDIAN, no offence, and not well trained, they just read what I can plainly read in the manual. The manuals insidentaly suck, very basic incomplete, veague information. Toshiba support sucks, because my brand new laptop comp stopped working so I mailed it in, they got it to boot again but some dummy diconnected the wireless G card, so I had to remail it in. I asked them to compensate me for thier inconviencing me. They said if make another boo-boo (they never accepted THIER mistake) they would give me a laptop of equal or LESSER value & MIGHT throw in a compensation like a trial period of something.(AOL 30 days)..Whatever! I only put this part in because I know someone will ask me "Why don't I just call Toshiba". LOL!

The worst that happens is you install it and it won't POST. Then just take it out, return it, and get PC2-5300.
