I have a Gateway laptop that runs on Windows XP.
It will play/read CD's, but when I put a DVD in, it seems as though it's really trying to read it, (A series of whirs and odd noises winding up and down) but then it never registers that there is something in there.
I was told this is probably a Driver problem.
I also restored the whole entire system, and the laptop was reading DVD's for a couple of days befor it stopped again. ![]()
The only thing I had loaded on there was a Wacom Graphire Tablet, Adobe Photo Shop 7.0 and a cruzer flash drive with some weird U3? thing on it.
I obviosly don't know anything about computers....
Anyway, is there a way to reset the drive?
Thanks!

Mobile Expert is right, your drive most likely is having a mechanical problem which might require a higher level of expertise to diagnose and repair.
If you are able to find the part, Best Buy does offer part installation services for a fee.
