On July 29th 2009 I bought a nice G51VX laptop via the local Bestbuy store here in Waterford Michigan. I thought at the time I would not want a backup battery so I put it to the side of the memory for later use.
Here I am about to go on vaction into semi-remote parts of Canada in early August and that backup battery looks like maybe a plus to take along. I have tried various settings in the power options and the best I can squeeze out of the beast would be 3 1/2 hours.
Moments ago I searched on Asus & Best Busy's websites for a replacement battery and came out with a goose egg.
Any ideas? Suggestions? I would like to get perhaps 2-3 extra batteries as I would be using it to download pics from my camera.and perhaps doing some photot editing.

You mean a second primary battery? The G51vx only has one battery slot and the drive bays can't be repurposed for a backup like some other laptops.
I BELIEVE, but can't be sure, that the G51vx uses the same battery as the G50, G60, and a few other models. Asus lists the following part numbers in their eStore as being for the G51:
70-NED1B1200Z - 9-cell, $169
90R-NED1B2000Y - 6-cell, $110
(Although their eStore swaps the part number between these two for the part # and item #...)
If you're really going to be in a remote area, you might want to consider getting a deep cycle lead-acid battery and a solar charger for it. You can get marine deep-cycle batteries for around $100 that have capacity at least 10-20 times that of the above batteries, however they're big and heavy. (You'll also need some support wiring, like a battery box, cables, a fuse, and an automotive adapter for the Asus.)

Just looking for a batteries that I can swap out when one dies. I can recharge them later when I have time.
