I need the serial number of a Macbook Air I purchased from Best Buy Mays Landing NJ last May 17, 2011. I tried sending in my macbook air for repairs and the repair center needs to verify that the item is within the 1 year warranty. When they checked the Apple warranty and repair system database, they said the warranty expired last February. But I bought the unit from Best Buy in May. I showed them the receipt but they said it should indicate the serial number. How can I get the serial number? And why was the date of purchase not updated by Best Buy? Now I 'm having problems because the Apple repair center says the unit is not covered by warranty. HELP!

Best Buy does not record seriel numbers of computers they sell.
The only time a seriel would be recorded is by Geeksquad if you sent the computer for repairs though them.
You Mac's Seriel will be on the box with the UPC , On the bottom of your machine, or available through the "About this Mac" through the Apple drop down menu.
If you have your receipt, it shows the date of purchase at the top. Provide them a copy of the receipt. They cannot reject you if you are within the 1-year warrenty and if it falls under the coverage of that warrenty. The repair center will be the ones resposible to notate the seriel upon performing the work so as to validate any other claims you make against that particular machine. The copy of the receipt you give should also be aattached to the files associated with that machine aswell.

Unfortunately, I didn't register my MBA when I bought it. Fortunately, I sent my MBA for an update at Geek Squad so they have a record of my MBA with serial number and date of purchase.
The repair center here in the Philippines insists that without the serial number in the receipt, they cannot change the date of purchase. It's a good thing I had to send it to Geek Squad otherwise I wouldn't have proof. I just don't know why they are not satisfied with the receipt. So much hassle.
