Re: Android tablet and apps vs iPad and apps,,,and any other help you are willing to offer????

I own both (android and iPad). Not sure why you say you cannot run apps on android...android has its own app store and there are tons of apps available for both platforms. I like android because it is open source, and it is not locked down the way the iPad is. Apple, the Apple App store, the iTunes store are all tightly controlled by Apple and Steve Jobs. ANy developer wanting to wrote an app for Apple must go through a stringent review process before it can be offered, and apps can get pulled at any time at the whim of Apple and/or Steve Jobs. Both platforms perform very well, and neither is significantly better than the other. Android offers a better UI in my opinion, but the latest update to the iPad at least now allows folders, which makes it easier to organize your desktops. I use and enjoy both platforms. In my opinion, once android tablets start selling in high enough volume, I think that developers will migrate away from apple and to android, because they don't have to go through the stringent, closed review and approval process that they do with Apple. I think developers will write for android, simply because they don't have to jump through hoops to get their apps in the android market. The iPad does have one distinct advantage...screen size. The 10 inch screen is beautiful, and a joy to use. The two platforms can even communicate and share files directly, using a program called "Bump", available for both the iPad/iPhone and the android market.

Re: Android tablet and apps vs iPad and apps,,,and any other help you are willing to offer????

Thanks so SO much for your time answering me... I must not have been clear...I know android has apps...my main question was if the apps were comparable to the iPad's. Sorry.  I do think I am gonna go with the android, at least to start. I am seeing they are now making 10' android tablets... I have just 1 more question if you do not mind... what is a good android tablet to buy...or a good brand for them... the reviews all range from saying the pc is junk...to its a miracle...and often its all on the same pc... just a start point would help so much,,,

Thanks so very much for your time....

Re: Android tablet and apps vs iPad and apps,,,and any other help you are willing to offer????

You have to consider a couple of points:  Android tablets are still in their infancy, and there is not yet a version of ANdroid designed specifically for tablets.  They use the same ANdroid (Froyo 2.2 or 2.3) that is running on the altest android smart phones.  In addition, there are only a couple of companies making tablets, so the hardware choices are not going to be dramatically different.

As I said, I like both platforms.  iPad has been out a few months longer than android tablets, so if you wnat maturity, go for iPad.  If you want a more intuitive user interface, go with Android.

Re: Android tablet and apps vs iPad and apps,,,and any other help you are willing to offer????

Here's my opinion.

The iPad is okay as a mobile internet device (MID) in that it features right out of the box just about everything that you would want to use to play on the internet quick and easy. An Android takes a bit of user configuration and time to set up. Now, here's where things get a bit complicated:

Android developers have plenty of incentive to build for Android because the market covers more than one carrier (currently.) There are also people who develop the same apps for both Android and Apple so they can attempt to become competitive in both markets. The more competition there is, the healthier and more lively each app market is going to be.

I have a Nexus One, by HTC/Google. It is the flagship Android phone, which is given out to developers to help them develop and test their apps. I have been very happy with it, from doing things like playing Angry Birds to running Google Docs. It's just a phone, but it's very sleek and it grows with me over time.

Something that worries me about Apple is that they charge a fixed price for fixed features, and when a new product comes out they phase out their old one to hold the price of their iPad. That means when new apps come out requiring the latest OS or hardware, an old iPad may not support it. The same goes for Android, however you are only limited by hardware -- not updates (generally.)

I'd suggest going with Android. And, if you want a really solid tablet, wait a little bit longer for the Android tablet market to mature. While it does, Apple will be releasing their new iPad with a webcam (great for Skype.) When that happens, you will have two very good choices, and hopefully you can make an excellent decision on your own.

Okay, maybe I should have stated for development. Eight months after its launch, it was announced the N1 was going to be the official Android developer phone. And apparently it still is.

Re: Android tablet and apps vs iPad and apps,,,and any other help you are willing to offer????

Being a "developer phone" does not make it "the best". While the N1 is a fine phone, there is no "best" phone on the market. Every current smart phone has fans an detractors, and at the rate at which new phones are being introduced, being "best" is at best temporary. Why get wrapped around the axle arguing which phone is best? There are plenty of great phones to choose from!
