ASUS U56E

[ Edited ]

I purchased this Asus laptop yesterday. It came pre-installed with Windows Home Premium 64-bit. It did not come with a disk, however. On the rear of the computer there is a Windows 7 serial code. What happens if I need to re-install the operating system?

Re: ASUS U56E

Look in your start menu for ASUS Recovery AI, this program allows you to create/burn your own recovery media.

Yes, but is this a full version of the OS? I wipe out my hard drive every 6 months - I am a student, so after each semester I fresh install. Will this disk reload the OS or will it lead to a link online with a downloadable Windows 7? Or will it just clean up the installed OS? How exactley does the Recovery AI work and what does it do?

Thanks Again,

Yes, it will restore the computer to the state that it was when you purchased it.

Basically it wipes the hard drive, and reloads it from an image.

Re: ASUS U56E

Download the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with SP1 ISO here and burn to a DVD or USB device:

Using the original key found under your laptop, you can now perform a clean installation as much as you like.  However, you may need to use the telephone method for activation after the installation finishes.  If so, please take a screenshot of the code you enter and save it to the bootable Windows 7 media, print it out, or upload it to the cloud because you can reuse the same exact phone code each and every time without fail as long as the hardware stays the same; which is probably of little concern for a laptop anyway.

Re: ASUS U56E

I generally would recommend seekrtz suggestion, if it weren't for the fact that there are some pretty cool ASUS utilities that they do come with. Most other manufacturer's, I'd completely agree though.

Re: ASUS U56E

It's on a hidden partition on the hard drive.

Re: ASUS U56E

The image is stored on a secondary primary partition that is usually hidden.
