XP anti virus pro

What the  is up with this thing ?

I turned around for a few moments then turned back and there was an XP anti virus pro window.

Even though I do not remember even down loading much less activating anything called that. It won't stop popping up a small window, can't seem to get rid of it or close it down.

It keeps wanting to run a system scan but in order to get rid of any of the threats I have to buy the stupid thing. The only anti virus I have is a free one, its all I can afford. Its the AVG and its not picking up any of the threats the XP anti virus is.

I keep getting system in danger windows popping up no matter how many times I close it, again AVG is not picking anything up and its updated. IN fact its not picking up anything at all.

I’m starting to wonder if I need to look into new free anti virus soft were and figure out what to do with the XP anti virus.

Re: XP anti virus pro

You need to get rid of that first(The virus).

Try going here > http://www.malwarebytes.org

Download and run the free scan and delete anything it finds.

I'll give it a try, at least I won't have to worry about male were temporally since most so called free were is on a timer or is only the very basic stuff.

Why would AVG not work ? It runs but it won't pick anything at all up. Nothing, no malewere or virus nothing.

Re: XP anti virus pro

Without getting too technical, the virus can be running with higher privilege than AVG, so, it's able to ignore AVG. You should run the MalwareBytes in SafeMode as well, sorry I didn't mention that.

Not quiet following you there. If you think that fake Anti-Virus will eventually time out and go away it wont. It will stay there nagging you and disabling your system until you remove it.

Simple answer is the threats XP Anti-Virus finds are fake they dont really exist. Its all a ploy to get you to buy the fake anti-virus. Chances are high that what AVG is showing is the real scan. But you still need to get rid of that fake anti-virus as fast as possible. At one time MaximumPC was messing around with XP AntiVirus and a couple of the other fake anti virus software installing it on a clean OS where nothing was installed but the OS and it would still find over 200 various threats and even listed threats in paths to folders and files that never existed.

Re: XP anti virus pro

The virus just ate my computer. I just got the malwere remover to remove the threats whent he computer started to shut down.

It restarted and now I have acsess to nothing but my Task Magager. Nothing is showing but that, my walpapper and that virus.

I will give them this, had me fooled for sevral minutes before I realized it was a fake. Now I have to ask around how to not only get rid of  it and  get acsess to my computer again.

I have a lot of files on it that I was in the prossess of saving off site whne it shut down,if I lose any of them I will be in very deep trouble.

And no I do not have a flash drive or anything like it and my RW drive has not worked in a year.

Re: XP anti virus pro

You need to install and run that Anti-Malware tool in Safe mode. You can do this by tapping the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up. That anti-Malware (Malware-Bytes) should definently be able to remove it using safe mode. I recently removed the same program from a friends computer. He never lost any files or anything in the process either.

Re: XP anti virus pro

Malwarebytes will remove xp antivirus pro but xp antivirus pro will go into the registry and disable things like IE and explorer. I have a link for the registry fix but it is on my computer at work. If I have time tomorrow I will post the fix.
