Best bet is to see if they have it on record. They might be able to print out a proof of purchase for you. I went into my local store today and asked some questions. The free upgrade has to be done by the manufacture, and from what they herd they are running way behind. They are hoping to have them done by years end maybe. Then I went and talked to the Geek Squad, they will be happy to install the free upgrade for $40.00. But you get no disc and the 40 is for them to actually install it.
Kida sounds like a scam to me. I preordered it a few months ago with three keys for $40.00. So for me I don't see paying them cash to install a disk and sit back and collect. But if that is your only computer it beats paying full price. Because I'll still be waiting to get the free upgrade a few months from now.

If you go by the flyer you received from Best Buy when you bought your computer, as I did, yes, it makes it look like you have to have the Geek Squad install the "free" upgrade at a cost of $39.99. I was furious until I did a search on Yahoo and found a posting about going to the computer's manufacturer website. Anyway, I was able to enter my Gateway's serial number and the date I bought it, and the disk is being sent at no charge. I didn't even have to provide a copy of the receipt. It's a shame that Best Buy has to go to such length to get business for their service group. I mean really, box up my computer and haul it to the store to run a software upgrade on it?? Shame on Best Buy!

Good grief! We bought our laptop in earlier June so we miss the deadline. Why does a few weeks matter? We bought it because it had Vista and now we have to pay full price to upgrade?!???? We always seem to be let down with BB. ANyone know of anything we can do to get the upgrade?

What in Gods name are you talking about my non computer laptop which is an alien I built would blow away your desktop in every category and guess what I can take it with me and do business and other things on it and use it in my car while your strapped into your wall all plugged in. Why would you want to be tied to the wall at home when laptops can do everything desktops can do accept you can actually use them when you want and not have to say oh hang on a minute let me run home and get on the computer. My fake computer i guarantee you has better graphics card, more memory, more speed and can actually be used when I need it you make no sense.
