Speaker wire install cost?

Hello, I drive a 2011 Dodge Journey. I would like to know if there is an additional cost to the speaker/amp install kits I purchased if I want to run new door specker wires to my amp instead of using the factory wiring?

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

Yes there will be additional costs to run new wires into the doors to the amplifier. What type of speakers are you running to the amplifier? I ask only because if they aren't crazy powerful then it would be a bit of overkill.

Can you provide me with the model numbers of the speakers and amplifiers that you are interested in installing so that I could be of further assistance?

Thank you for posting with the community and it is my hopes I can be an it more detailed with the model numbers of the stuff you are wanting installed.

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

I am going to use Alpine - 6-1/2" Components Model Number: SPR-60C for the front and Alpine - Type-R 6-1/2" Model Number: SPR-60 for the rear. Im using a LOC AudioControl LC7i.

For the amp I am going to use Rockville RXH-F5 3200 Watt Peak/1600w RMS 5 Channel. (Info from website)

CEA Compliant Power Ratings: 4 Ohms: 550 Watts (4 x 50 Watts + 1 x 350) at 4 ohms and 1% THD+N

2 Ohms: 800 Watts (4 x 75 Watts + 1 x 500) at 2 ohms and 1% THD+N

RMS Power Ratings 4 Ohms: 1100 Watts (4 x 100 watts + 1 x 700 Watts)

2 Ohms: 1600 Watts (4 x 150 watts + 1 x 1,000 Watts)

Im also going to be using a Kicker - CompR 12" Dual-Voice-Coil 2-Ohm Subwoofer Model: 43VCWR122.  500 RMS. Peak Power Handling 1000 watts.

Would I be underpowering the speakers with this amp if I use the factory wiring or would I be fine with the Best Buy Tech using 9 conductor speedwire ?

Thanks

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

That will certainly sound pretty sweet when everything is all said and done! I would honestly say that your setup is pretty standard for power ratings though. I have worked on multiple cars with the same setup where we just use the speed wire, but I could see that you could benefit from upgrading the wires also.

It is a toss up and up to you ultimately on what you choose to do, but I think if you were to use the factory wiring and the speed wire that would be more than enough. I personally don't think that you would hear much difference with the upgraded wires, but there would be significant costs associated with running all new wires opposed to connecting behind the radio or amp with speed wire to the 5channel.

Again these are just my personal opinions, but if I were in your shoes I would probably spend the money that you would spend on running those wires into the door on sound damping material to really eliminate the outside noise and deliver the best sound quality you can with the setup you are installing.

So yes you could run them, and yes we will install that, but your factory wiring should be more than enough to run that setup. If you are planning on upgrading later on down the way then I would run the wires now, if not then I would spend it on some ballistic sound damping or dynamat. Either way the choice is yours and it will sound phenomenal when you get it installed!!! Best of luck!

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

Thanks for getting back. I will take your advice and go with adding the sound damping material instead.

I forgot to mention that I have two front dash 3.5" speakers. Sound I replace them or disconnect them and just use the Alpine tweeters instead?

Thanks.

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

I would probably recommend running the component tweeter up to those locations that way there aren't any permanent modifications to fit those tweeters in the door (drilled in).  The choice is again yours, but I personally try to go for aftermarket sound with the factory look, afterall you did buy the car because you like the way it looks, why sacrafice the look for sound when you have locations that can hide them.

If you do not mind the look of a tweeter drilled in, (some people do not care) then yes you will get a bit more sound by adding the tweeters into the door (drilled in) and putting 3.5 dash speakers in the factory locations on the top deck.

Another great option to add a little more sound is a "foam padded" insert that goes behind the speakers.  They basically  create an enclosure for the speakers just like a subwoofer in a box.  we do not carry them on best buy.com so i cannot post it here, but just take a look online.

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

I think im going to have the tweeters put in the dash for that factory look but will talk it over with the Best Buy Tech at my appointment next week.

I just placed my order for the foam padded inserts and sound damping material you recommended. From what I seen online this should really help make everything sound alot better.

Thank you for all your help and recommendations.

Re: Speaker wire install cost?

I can't wait to hear about how the sound turns out! Make sure you talk to the autotech about the pricing of the sound damping material installation, and also there shouldn't be a charge for installing those inserts since it is just after all a pad that gets placed on the back of the speaker, really no installation needed.

Just make sure your autotech prices you out another quote before beginng the work so that there are no surprises at the end. Keep me posted on how it all turns out, and be open to some ideas that the autotech may recommend as they are the ones that are looking at the car. Best of luck and I can't wait to know how it turns out!!!
