Remote Start/Keyless Entry - 2016 Toyota Tacoma - Viper 4806V

I recently purchased my truck and it did not come with a few features that I need. I went to Bestbuy today and got a quote for an install of the 4860V and had a question regarding one of the items on the quote. "Factory Alarm Labor." It's my understanding that the 4806V does not come with any security system so I was wondering what the reason for this part/service may be. If needed I can provide a picture of the quote. Thank you for taking the time to read, and hopefully answer this question.

Re: Remote Start/Keyless Entry - 2016 Toyota Tacoma - Viper 4806V

this is a question that i get alot. the "factory alarm labor" that rings up as a standard add on for 39.99 is there to disarm the factory alarm during the start process.

what that means is that when your vehicle is locked and you go to remotely start your vehicle and you didnt have this turned off then your factory alarm would go off because it doesnt know how your car started. setting off the factory alarm would usually flash parking lights, headlights, and honk the horn, in unison. this would be very annoying evertime you start your vehicle.

what we do as installers is properly disarm the alarm during the start sequence so that this does not happen, and when the run time ends or you shut off your vehicle by the remote start remote key fob, it will be re-activated making sure your car is secured all the time.

does that help out in understanding that charge? if not let me know. please know im grateful that you took the time to write with us, and also the time you took to join the community. keep me posted if you need further assistance and best of luck!

It does, thank you. I actually went back to BB today and got another quote for another system. Everything is the same on the quote, except for the system that I am going to purchase. It seems that even if you're not getting a security system installed this is a fee. I'm going to end up knocking up to the 5806V to take advantage of it regardless.

Re: Remote Start/Keyless Entry - 2016 Toyota Tacoma - Viper 4806V

correct it is a standard option for many toyota trucks, especially the tacomas, to come with a factory alarm. when a vehicle comes with a factory alarm then the "standard add-on" charge needs to be charged. that is why you see it on all the quotes for your truck with the remote start option.

may i recommend, even though it is a bit more of a price jump, the benefits are a little easier to read and the functionality will be the same as the 5806v. the viper 5706v is the exact same as the 5806v, but instead of coming with a remote that has LED's and chimes to alert you of all the features, you will have an lcd remote with an easy read out informing you of all the activities that your vehicle is doing.

for example, if the alarm is set off your viper 5806v will scroll the LED's up and down the remote and chime a melody to inform you an event has occured to your vehicle. do you know at that time if it is a shock sensor, door open, hood open? not until you head out to your vehicle to find out and read the feedback of the led on the antenna.

ever wonder when you cant see your car if your vehicle is locked, unlocked, or what event occured that set off the alarm? well rest easy with the LCD screen of the 5706v because you can see what time it is, if the car is locked or unlocked, and if an event occurs you will be able to see what caused it when it reports to the remote. so know what set off the alarm, rather than wonder by seeing "door open, shock sensor, or hood open." on an easy read out on the lcd screen.

during the remote start you can also see your runtime via a minute count, if it is running or not, and again locked or unlocked. you can also set it to vibrate only, sound only, or both at the same time. this remote operates with a built in battery that gets charged by a micro usb charger via its port on thr side. usually can last anywhere between 1 month to a couple weeks on a single charge depending on the usage of it.

sorry for the pitch on the 5706v but since you are still in the market, i want you to understand the benefits of hopping up to the lcd screen over the led read out. ease of use and peace of mind is nice to have with a security system.
