Microphone bad? Pioneer MVH-X380BT

On my Pioneer MVH-X380BT, with phone calls, caller can't hear me.talk.

I talk, they say Hello Hello  Hello?

Perhaps it's the microphone?  How can I test this?

Can I use any mic that has right size plug for jack?

Re: Microphone bad? Pioneer MVH-X380BT

Honestly, this is the main reason why the Autotechs demo after the installation is so important.  During this time we make sure that not only do all the components that we just installed work, but also that something simple doesn't get left unplugged like the microphone.  There is nothing more frustrating then having a new piece of equipment installed and not knowing how to use it, so thats another great reason why the demo is so important.

With that said, from your post I'm not completely sure that you had this unit installed by a Best Buy, but i think i can still be of some assistance.  Personally i have never had an issue with a microphone that has come out of the new box for any of the radios.  I have had some weird instances where the customer has brought me their own units and a microphone that was not for the radio, and during these instances it is hard to say without having the proper microphone if its the unit or the mic.

Some easy quick ways to check it out would be to make sure you are plugged into the right hole.  On that unit there will be a big hole and a little hole on top. Please make sure that this microphone is fully seated into this hole and that when you re-assemble the radio that this plug does not come unplugged.  If you are still not getting anything check the microphones cable to make sure that there are no knicks or fraying wires, and that the black coating is not damaged in any way from the 2.5mm to the microphone itself.

If for some reason this is still not solving the issue for you and it was not installed by a Best Buy please call your local installation bay to set up an appointment for a troubleshoot.  normal troubleshooting starts at $24.99 per 1/4 hour (15 min) equalling $100 an hour.  Most of the times our Autotechs are quick and fast at troubleshooting and can usually figure out what is causing the issue very fast, but the installer completing your appointment should provide you with an accurate time quote, and then call you when it is complete.

I hope you figure this out, and i hope you are able to take advantage of your BT microphone on that head unit.  I love those media players and would hate for you to not get the most valuable feature working on it.  If you should need further assistance please do not hesitate to let me know!  Thank you for the time you took to write and join the community!

OH NO! I forgot to write:

If you did have this unit installed at a Best Buy please head back to the Installation bay to have this warranty issue checked out.  Please bring with you your receipt, or your yellow check-in/check-out forms provided before and after the installation.  This service should be free providing that nothing was messed with after the installation that would jeopardize our workmanship.  Best of luck!

Re: Microphone bad? Pioneer MVH-X380BT

No, not installed by Geek Squad; self install

Something like the 6th or 7th stereo I've installed in 6 or 7 of my cars over years.

Initially, BT phone was working, then not,

I checked microphone jack, Mic had un-plugger itself, so, plugged it in.

All good, then, dead *again*.  Checked yesterday, Mic is properly plugged in.

I'm going to try plugging in a desktop mic that has a 3.5mm stereo plug

and see if that works. Most inexpensive mics have similar impedance.

<Shrug>

It's under warranty, and have already contacted Pioneer, about problem,

but if I can fix it myself, by replacing a cheap part, no reason to have it in their shop for 4-6 weeks.

Re: Microphone bad? Pioneer MVH-X380BT

the microphone should not be plugged into a slot that has a 3.5 mm jack that is the "wired remote" designated for the steering wheel controls.  the 2.5 mm jack directly above it is where that should be plugged into, the 3.5 will not fit into this slot and do not attempt otherwise you will probably void your warranty with pioneer.  It sounds like you have a bad mic, so i would work with pioneer to get this resolved. thank you for your time and good luck working with the manufacturer to rememdy this situation.  best of luck!

It is on your steering wheel. Maybe on the left or right, there is a button that says answer call. Press that button.

Well the I misspoke, or shold I say mis-wrote? Smiley Frustrated

In any event, the 2.5mm male won't stay in the 3.5mm female..

{removed per forum guidelines}

Waiting for delivery of new mic with 2.5mm male jack.

OH...and BTW, though I have steering wheel controls

for radio and Heat- A/C system, car has none for phone.
