Hi,

I was looking for a second hand digital SLR camera and I'd feel safer if it was sold in a best buy shop. does anybody know a place in boston, MA, where I can buy one?

Some tips...

• In general, if you can't afford it, you can buy the next model down.  For example, if you can't afford the D4, you can get the D800.  Can't afford the D7000, you can get the D3100.
• buy last year's model new.... it will be cheaper than when it's first announced.  Works for new cars... why not cameras.  iPad 2 prices have fallen with the iPad 3 around the corner.
• pay attention to shutter actuations.... Nikon embed's a shutter count in the EXIF on each JPG so you can see how close it is to the recommend lifespan of the camera (some are 100,000, some are 150,000 or more)
• watch for dead and hot pixels with sample full resolution images
• consider performing a dust sensor test.  Take a picture with something like an Expodisc at a small aperture.
• watch for loose grips... heavily used cameras will have air leaks around the grips that lets in dust
• some used cameras are missing the eyepiece rubber cup.  Likely a camera bag too small was used.
• camera body prices fall much faster than lenses.

Thanks for joining our forums and for your interest in getting your next camera from Best Buy. At this time we do not have a replenishing stock of refurbished DSLR's. Inventory would be dependent upon any possible returned items in your local stores.

I checked with Cambridge, Back Bay, and South Bay and found that there is currently no open box DSLR's. Back Bay said they had a few compact system cameras, Sony NEX5k and NEX3k, that were open box items.  

Back Bay does have the Sony Alpha A55 on clearance and you could call or visit the store for details on that.  Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
