digitizing VHS content

Anybody know how to transfer family videos on VHS to a digital format for archving via DVD or just as a digital file?  Thanks -

I like those Sony DV-Direct units where you don't need a computer, but just need a VCR with A/V inputs.

I agree.... skip the computer....
