Re: digital camera repair

Hi Beaverdoe,

It really depends on what needs to be repaired, but we do provide digital camera repair services through our Geek Squad® precincts in our stores. I would have the camera looked at by a digital imaging expert in a Best Buy® store, and if they determine that the camera needs to be repaired you could have the store send it out for service. Another thing to keep in mind is that if the camera is less than a year old the repair could be covered by the manufacturer's warranty as long as the problem is determined to be a defect. If your camera is not covered by a warranty or extended service plan the repair would be at cost to you, and it is often the case that digital camera repairs are not cost effective.

Re: digital camera repair

Yes.  Whether it is worth it depends on the nature of the failure and the value of the camera.

Re: digital camera repair

Just as a general guideline - when saying "My device broke!", always provide the brand and model of the device.

Unfortunately if the LCD is cracked there's a good chance it'll be cheaper to buy a new camera, unless you've got a high end DSLR.

Re: digital camera repair

At under $200 new, I wouldn't be surprised if the repair cost were more than the value of the camera.

It MIGHT be possible to realign the lens assembly yourself, I did this with a dropped Olympus, but I consider that to be a "last resort" prior to purchasing a new unit.

I have a Canon Powershot SD790is that I bought from Best Buy last May.  I overcleaned the lense with solution and now it is foggy.  If I bring it in to the GeekSquad will someone be able to help me fix my camera?

That'll probably result in the unit being sent to Canon for repair.  It sounds like you may have scuffed up the antireflective coatings on the front lens element by applying too much pressure when cleaning...  Which pretty much means the front element needs to replaced if that is the case.
